Pipeline vs. Water Well

Water well drilling is not a decision to take lightly.  It takes a bit of research, lots of planning (on our side).

We have noticed an increasing phenomenon develop.  Clients who are on pipeline water are distancing themselves a bit and choosing to go the route of water well. The pipeline water in Saskatchewan has some advantages. Generally, the cost is not one of them. The pipeline does offer water for many clients who would otherwise have no other options and some areas are known to have a high water well failure rate. In these areas having access to the pipeline is great. In situations where clients are establishing new yard sites, that include a small tree line, lawn and maybe a small garden.  Water on the pipeline is just too pricey.  It is becoming more common to have access to 2 water supplies, the other being a well.  Some have chosen to rely solely on the well knowing that the pipeline is at the end of the property.  The past 2 years have seen its share of drought in some regions. I have heard more stories of rural pipeline water uses being denied water while their counterparts in towns and developments are on a water-reduced rate. So not only do they have a higher rate to hook up, slow .3 or .5 of a gal intake, they also have to plan for water shortages in the day by filling holding tanks at night.  They now also have to contend with being cut off completely when they need it most. In these situations, wells become a logical answer. If a formation that is reliable is within the target, it is often cheaper or about the same as the initial cost of hooking up to the pipeline. 

Water wells have the advantage of being independently owned, and once the initial cost and hook up is completed a good well will last generations with limited maintenance and no additional costs.  Each well is unique, and we always take time to explain the specific attributes to the owner.
