Let’s be very clear upfront. Materials are not all the same. There is absolutely a long term cost of poor quality water well materials.

We often get calls to repair water wells completed by other well drilling companies and contractors. What we have encountered is ODD ball materials being used in water well applications where the materials may not have been intended to be used for this application. We get emails every week from other Countries trying to sell questionable materials for water wells where there is no way to be sure of the quality and definitely no warranty. For example, when a company sources a pitless adaptor from China, India, etc. at discounted prices they cannot be sure that is built with quality material that it is not going to corrode together and make it useless to pull out later….. resulting in more complicated repair costs down the road.

We have encountered casing materials that are not sold for the intention of water wells and no identifying information can be found on it, such as supplier, manufacture and critical information regarding pressure. This becomes important when aquifer pressure and frost are two constant pressures on the well.

When researching and receiving quotes from water well drilling companies - It is important to ask where the materials come from. Look for water well drilling companies that use standard materials that can be picked up easily in the event hardware needs to be switched out. Consider it a red flag if the company you have hired are materials sourcing from overseas, cutting corners and cutting costs at the expense of the project and reliability.
